Old Down’s roots stretch back to the 18th century, when the manor was originally built as a private country residence overlooking the Severn Estuary. Over the years it has transformed from a family home into one of South Gloucestershire’s most recognisable venues, celebrated for weddings, events and its sweeping countryside views. The estate also holds a unique place in modern cultural history — it was once owned by musician Mike Oldfield, the composer behind the iconic 1973 album Tubular Bells. During his time there, the manor became a creative sanctuary, linking the property not only to architectural heritage but also to one of the most influential instrumental records of its era.
